Happy October!!

I can't believe it is already October! I love this time of year...the fresh cool air, changing leaves, the beautiful colors, decorations and everything pumpkin! We have a lot of fun happenings in the next couple months! It's my hope that all of you are able to come visit our residents and spend time with your loved ones at our fall and holiday activities and events!

Our 14th annual Trick or Treat Event will be on October 20th @ 2:00. This is one of my favorite events that we have. It is so fun to see how excited our residents get when they are able to interact with kids. They really look forward to this event every year! For those of you who have not attended in the past, the details are below!

All children & grandchildren of staff, families & residents are invited to our Trick or Treat Event. We gather in the Chapel, so everyone can parade through together. Everyone is encouraged to dress up so our residents can see all the kids in costume. (This event is as much fun for our residents as it is for the kids!) Residents sit in their doorways and in the Fireside Lounge with bags of candy to pass out to the kids as they come through.

This event is run by two AMAZING volunteers, Tammy Jorgenson-Owens & Robin Martinek. They spend of lot of their time & money gathering candy donations, buying candy for all the trick or treaters and putting all the bags together for the residents to be able to pass the candy out. This is a HUGE project and we are so grateful for Tammy & Robin! They really love throwing this event every year!

Anoka County will be holding absentee voting for our residents who live in LTC on October 25th. This is only for LTC residents because this is their home address. TCU patients will not be able to vote absentee at Park River. Voting stations will be open from 9-11:00 in the Therapeutic Recreation Department.

Our resident Halloween Party will be October 26th @ 2:00 this year. We will have the talented Lynn Brownell entertain and will be serving lots of Halloween themed treats & cocktails. It is super fun for us to dress up and we love when residents are able to dress up as well! Families are encouraged to bring in costumes for our residents to wear for both the Trick or Treat Event and our Resident Halloween Party.

Also, we are in need of donations for our live auction fundraiser on November 8th @ 7:00. The auction is the main fundraiser for the Resident Council Foundation. The money we raise is used to pay for monthly entertainers, leisure supplies for our residents, activity supplies, events (rentals for the picnic, dunk tank...etc.) and extra items to enhance our residents quality of life when they are in our care. If you have any questions, please contact me @ lmaki@parkriverestates.com

Hope to see you soon!!
